Zanzibar, which includes its sister Island Pemba, is a tourist paradise that lies in the Indian Ocean, 6 degrees south of the Equator and just over 20 miles from the mainland. The different races that have settled in Zanzibar over the centuries have left their impact on the people and the architecture, including the “House of Wonders” once the palace of the Sultan. The remains of Maruhubi, the prisoners island and the stone town with its narrow streets are only a few of the vivid attractions.
